It’s Springtime at the Plantation!

Beautiful yellow flowers against a blue sky.

This is a beautiful time of year in our neighborhood. The golf course is greening up, flowers are poking though the cold earth, and birds are nesting. It is a reminder of how special our neighborhood is, nestled by the Boise River, surrounded by nature and wildlife. There is nothing like it in the Treasure Valley. We must protect it!

Thanks to all who attended the Planning & Zoning meeting on March 15, 2023. We had a lot of neighbors attend and sign up to testify for the preservation of The Plantation Neighborhood. That meeting was deferred until April 27, 2023. The upcoming meetings that are crucial for public testimony against the massive development proposed by the Lincoln Property Company are:

April 27, 2023 at 5:30pm

Planning and Zoning Commission hearing
Garden City City Hall
6015 N Glenwood St, Garden City, ID

Please come early and sign up to testify. If you don’t want to testify, you can give your time to someone else. We need your attendance!

May 22, 2023 at 6:00pm

City Council hearing
Garden City City Hall
6015 N Glenwood St, Garden City, ID

We need your attendance at this meeting. It is critical to the future of our neighborhood. There will be public testimony. Make your voice heard!

These are the two meetings that we are aware of at this point.

How to give your testimony minutes to someone else

If you would prefer to give your testimony minutes to someone else:

  • Grab a form from the table at the door of the meeting room; the form looks like this

  • Check the box stating you want to testify

  • Make a note under the box stating you want to give your minutes to [name of the person]

Our primary goals are to:

Preserve the value of our properties

A person’s home is often the largest investment they will make. It is worth protecting the value of our homes. Take time to review the SAP application again and the comments from the Garden City Planning staff regarding the application. Try to find anything in these documents that you think preserves the value of your home.

Preserve our quality of life

There is nothing in the proposed development that preserves our quality of life. The density—more than 750 units—is far too massive. The height of the proposed buildings—4-5 stories high—is too high. There are no structures on State Street that are five stories high from Highway 55 to the North End of Boise. The proposed development of hole number 11, adjacent to Fair Oaks Place, is irresponsible. There is inadequate parking for the proposed development, and our neighborhood will be affected by overflow parking. The proposed development is not compatible with our neighborhood!

Preserve the golf course in perpetuity

The golf course is the reason many of us live in The Plantation, whether we are golfers or not. The views of the wide-open green space, of the mountains in the distance (still covered in snow), and the wildlife. There is a sense of peace and tranquility that comes from living here. We all love the golf course. We want the golf course and all amenities to be preserved in perpetuity!

These are our primary goals. There is a legal process to follow when submitting a proposed zoning change or plans for development of a piece of property. We are watching that process closely. We all have the opportunity to be a part of the process, to protect our investment and our quality of life. Don’t allow others to threaten or intimidate you by telling you how much you have to lose if you don’t support the proposed SAP application. That is not constructive to the process.

We will stand strong together! We will show up to the meetings in large numbers and let our voices be heard. The Plantation Neighborhood is worth fighting for!
